Cossor’s Shop has had a change of Directorship from November 2016.
The new Director is Carol Parsons. She has volunteered for Carnival for many years as an event organiser, Company Vice – Chair and is the daughter of Cossor (Clifford Goldsworthy) and Vice President Olive Goldsworthy.
Carol said, “I really appreciate the support I have received from my family, friends and customers since taking on my new role. We also have a great band of volunteers who help run the shop and store on a daily basis. I am really enjoying my new role and meeting customers old and new. Carnival is something that I have been involved with all my life and my main aim is to secure the future of the shop. I believe if we offer good quality items at reasonable prices with friendly, first class customer service, the shop should continue to help secure the future of our much cherished Carnival”.
Why do we have a shop?
The costs of running Carnival has rocketed over the last few years and without the revenue from the shop over the past 10 years, Carnival would struggle to run in its present form.
We rely on the kind donations from the public. We take good quality, general bric a brac and furniture *. We do not sell shoes or clothing as the Prospect Shop next door relies on these sales. If you wish to donate furniture, we would ask you not to deliver it to the shop, but to call to arrange for us to collect or deliver to the store on Saturday morning.
*Please note: upholstered items must have fire regulation certificate attached.
Furniture can be viewed at our Carnival and Community Store on The Salisbury Road Business Park. The store will be open for viewing on Saturday mornings from 9.30am until midday. If you are not able to view between these times, please call Carol to arrange a convenient time.
Cossor’s Book Shop
Did you know Cossor’s now has its own book shop? The book shop is situated behind the bus stop next to the Fire Station. It has a wide selection of books at very affordable prices.
The book shop is open Tue, Wed, Fri and Saturday (hours vary).
History of Cossor’s Shop
That’s a funny name? Cossor was the nickname of Clifford Goldsworthy who was a Carnival stalwart, organising Cossor’s Sale, (formerly the Butcher’s Sale) from 1948 to 1998. Cossor was also Carnival President in the 1990s.
In 2005-2006 Roger Pope decided to open a second hand shop to raise much needed funds for Carnival. Since then the shop has provided Carnival with funds to purchase our Carnival Store, support the running costs of Carnival as well as allowing us to donate to other local good causes.
PLEASE DO SUPPORT COSSORS!
