Shelley Rudman Supporters Group

The 4th March 2006 saw a mini-Carnival enacted on the streets of Pewsey as an estimated 8,000 well-wishers from a village bursting with pride staged a lavish homecoming. This was to help local girl Shelley-Marie Rudman celebrate her Silver medal winning exploits at the Turin Winter Olympics.

This parade took the form of an open-top bus ride from the railway station to the doors of the Moonrakers which, having the only public satellite screen in Pewsey for EuroSport’s skeleton bobsleigh coverage in the run-up to the Olympics, had become the de facto HQ of the Shelley Rudman Supporters Group (ext link) which these days stays up-to-date as a Facebook group.

Villagers themselves had been playing their part in backing Shelley since 1998 when she became the first young person to receive help from the Hasbeen’s Gentlemens Evening.
