I thought that this years Carnival was the best ever in my 20 years.
I was disappointed that the Melksham Pirate float had its booze confiscated. It’s all very well to say that rules and regs are on the website and entry form however history has shown that booze is acceptable on carnival night. I hope they got their booze back. Alternatively we need to placate the Melksham crew in order for them to continue to enhance our carnival……. We need these outside participants!
Many thanks to all that helped in making our Carnival happen this year. There were a few quirks with the judging???
Anyway, here’s looking forward to next year…

Going through Pewsey itself was fine, but up in the estate walkers were waiting around for quite a while for the procession to catch up. coming down round by the church no spectators only people walking towards the fair.

Just to say I really enjoyed the carnival, it was the first time I had taken part.
Some things I would improve for next year are:
Much less stopping and starting for the dancers at the front with the fire engine.  It was really frustrating to get slowly moving, only to have to stop for the dancers again.  In the housing estate most of the walkers I was with had got cold from standing round waiting and went home, by the time we got to the end of the procession I was walking on my own!  Maybe just one or two stops for the dancers next time.
Also, I got hit in the face several times by silly string, water or objects thrown from the crowd.  I know it is hard to manage a big crowd, but if there were more stewards or security watching the crowd and making sure they behave it would make it much more enjoyable for the walkers and performers.
Apart from that I had a really good time and will be back next year
Cheers

On line entry form needs to be a different format.
PDF online and then it says to hand in a hand signed copy.
This is repeating what being online is all about.
Word doc that can be signed and sent as e mail attachment would be better.

[Admin: The hand-signed copy was the primary format as the originator's signature was required for insurance purposes. The form could be filled using Acrobat Reader v7+ then printed, signed and posted. Before closing the form the same data could then be emailed to us in the format required to be entered automatically into our database, i.e. no repetition of effort on the part of entrants or ourselves. (Now that entrants' details are in our database we could easily send out invitations/reminders for next year)]

Well done.
Procession was running smoothly through the crescent.
Stewards did a good job along side the floats.
Posters on floats saying ‘don’t throw coins at floats’ was a good idea and hopefully there were no issues with this.

… we had a great night. Many thanks to the carnival comitee for doing all the hard work behind the scenes to enable the carnival to go ahead and many thanks also to the great entries this year that proves that the carnival spirit lives on!!!
Here’s to 2009

Got to just say a word of thanks for a great family night out this year.
Bring on 2009!

For the walking entrants, with hand-drawn floats, reaching assembly point 6 was somewhat a challenge (Small wheels on soft ground and heavy floats!). Great event and thanks to all those who gave many hours to organising it all!

difficult to process joyfully when the onlookers and spectators looked so miserable!  the field was no fun we all went there at the last minute so the party atmosphere never happened up there at all this year.  nice not having pedestrians pushing past going in the opposite direction of the procession route though.  if the police had dealt with the drunk messing about between the vehicles last year (as we asked them to) things would have been very different this time round.  can the Pewsey publicans please take responsibility for their customers (which part of the Licensing Act does that come under)?  carnival is a big money maker for them after all.  those taking part in the procession have paid a heavy price for what has happened.  was it of our making in the first place?  no.

I refused to go in Carnival this year as 2007 was just full of drunken youths falling in the road. I have participated in carnival for 12 years so it was a big decision. I watched the carnival this year and could not believe the difference. I felt the carnival was very well organised and the carnival was enjoyable and a pleasure to watch. The carnival commitee worked really hard and they do not always get the praise needed. I will definatly go in the procession next year.
