Kenny Miles – “Miss Fifi”
Miss Fifi was born, understandably, at the old Phoenix Hotel sometime around 1980 though, as is a lady’s perogative, her exact age is somewhat indeterminable. One night between pints Kenny and friends were mulling over what to do for Carnival when they decided, as so many men do, that the answer was to dress up as women.
In Kenny’s case this proved to be a real winner and over the years Miss Fifi’s contributions to Carnival funds proved to be most substantial. Unfortunately, ill health forced Kenny (d. 2003) to hang up his wig and boobs in 1997. In later years he was once sighted as a Viking and a strong run on lipstick and eye-shadow at the local chemist once gave rise to speculation that La Fifi – the Vamp of the Vale (watch out lads!) – may have be considering a comeback!
