The Children’s 3 Legged Race 2014 review.
The annual 3 legged race has now grown into so much more than just a race for the kids. The organisers had managed to create a real village fete feel with the use of side shows, fair rides, Kat’s Happy Tea tent and the BBQ tent cooking up some burgers and hot dogs all around the main “show” arena. The weather was also glorious which always helps.
The day began with 50 teams of 2, all in fantastic fancy dress, registering for the race itself. There were also lots of toddlers and family members around to support the entrants and enjoy the side show games and rides.
Before the race began the entrants paraded their costumes in the arena and were judged by the royal family. There were no push a long entrants this year which was a little disappointing but the other three categories were well represented.
Group A : 12 – 15 year olds.
1st Place were The Punks
2nd Place were the Minecraft team
3rd Place were the Blood Zombies
Group B 9 – 11 year olds.
1st Place were Hot Air
2nd Place were Minions
3rd Place were Blue Unicorns
Group C: Under 8’s
1st Place were The Boxtrolls
2nd Place were The Minions
3rd Place were The Green Fairies
Judging completed and prizes awarded the teams were then ushered down to the start with their race cards in hand. The object of the race is to run the course, ( taking in the Cow Hooping, the Indian knife throwing, a drink stop, the Pirates river crossing and the Football skills stop,) complete the activity, collect a sticker and get back to the finish tent in the fastest time. Simples! The skilled timing team now have this down to a fine art and the teams were soon all off round the course and the completed race cards were coming back to the finish tent. The team then had some time to relax around the fete whilst the timings were collated and the winners were announced.

A huge well done and thank you goes out to the event organiser Lee Grafton and his hard working band of volunteers – there are so many to mention but you know who you are and the event could not happen if it were not for you. Thanks also go out to the children for turning out to make it an event worth doing. You were all awesome!
