    Illuminated Procession Classes and Judging

Following a committee meeting on 6th Aug the classification and judging of carnival floats has been streamlined as part of the drive to encourage more people to build and enter larger floats.

    * New for 2009 - the previous four different classes for roadworthy vehicles (tradesmen / families / youth groups / adult organisations) is reduced to just two: one for Articulated units (>9m in length) (Class 3), the other for those towed by or aboard smaller roadworthy vehicles (Class 4).

As last year, the roadworthy vehicle classes will be joined in the main Motorised Procession by human-propelled vehicles that use a fuelled generator (Class 1). They will again be following the Pedestrian Procession comprised of all other entrants, i.e. Class 2 for individuals/groups on foot with/without human-propelled floats (e.g. decorated bicycles, soap-boxes, etc.).

    Judging

    * New for 2009 – all entrants in each class will be assessed by a panel of judges who will award marks out ten against the criteria below, winners to be announced at the service around King Alfred’s statue on the following evening (Sun 20th):
