Fewer than 100 Days To Go and the Bandwagon is Rolling …

The above notice is to remind all who want to learn a few “tricks of the trade” of the Creative Workshop being held on 25th June in Coopers Field with the help of Wiltshire Scrapstore. Come and see how to put on a show without it costing you a fortune!

And if you do take the opportunity to enter this year’s Illuminated Procession on 17th Sept you will find yourself alongside an increasing number of  specialist bands and dance troupes, old friends and new of Pewsey Carnival. But don’t just take our word for it have a look at the engagements lists on their own websites:

What with that and the half-dozen or so new floats we already know about it looks like 2011 will be the biggest Pewsey Carnival since the Centenary event in 1998!

Beneficiaries

Upwards  of £5,500 was raised for our beneficiaries by the activities of Carnival 2010.
Prospect Hospice, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Naomi House again received £1,000. Wiltshire Search and Rescue (WILSAR) and 40+ churches, village halls and charitable causes also received donations.

Award Winners

The annual awards to carnival workers and supporters were also made at the recent Presentation Evening:

Fred Phillips Cup – Annmarie Martin

Len Goddard Cup – Trevor Mabbutt

President’s Cup – Pewsey Hasbeens

Luce Cup (best decorated home) – shared by Mr and Mrs Owen and Mr and Mrs Warborough

A special Gold Medal to mark 50 years’ service was presented to Chairman Richard Giles by long-standing committee member Don Andrews.

Pewsey Carnival would like to thank long-time friends and supporters Pewsey Vale Running Club for a substantial donation that is to go towards the cost of attracting more Bands to this year’s Carnival procession. This represents yet more good news along with the five new floats who have already stated their intention of entering into the fun on Sat 17 Sept 2011!

Scrappage Scheme!

Come along and get some ideas for Carnival this year. The good people from Wiltshire Scrapstore will be holding a creative workshop showing us all how to make things like costumes etc from SCRAP materials. The event is being held at Coopers Field, Ball Road on Sat 25th June between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm (+ see Calendar of Events)

Also local float builders will be in attendance to share their experience on how to get your float up and running for carnival. From how to source materials, music, electrics, painting, building and much much more.

This event is FREE to attend, just wear old clothes and bring a creative mind and join in the fun. this event is suitable for all ages

BREAKING NEWS!

Hot news on Insurance for Carnival entrants…………………

All entries for Carnival 2011 will have their Insurance paid for, by the Carnival committee, with the exclusion of ‘The Walkers’ – Class 2, who will enter at their own risk, as in previous years.

All Vehicles that need road/motor insurance will need to provide this themselves, as before. i.e. Tractors and Trailers and large Articulated Vehicles. Insurance Certificates will need to be produced on the day.

Interactive Magic Lantern Show Update!

The PADFAC web slaves and friends are pleased to present the selection of 50 carnival photographs from the 1960s to 1990s discussed at the second Interactive Magic Lantern Show held on Tues 29th March 2011.  Attendees of the two events have now helped to identify over 300 individuals with ~160 different family names.

Royal Wedding Party

PADFAC, the Children’s Carnival committee and stalwart carnival clubs Hasbeens and Zixex have been involved with other local organisations in laying down plans for a day-long family centred party to mark the Royal Wedding on Fri 29th April.

The event is to take place in Coopers Field, Ball Road starting at 9.30am and running late into the evening. Activities so far notified include “Its-a-knock-out”, large screen TV coverage of the wedding itself, all-day barbecue. The field will also be a perfect vantage point for the beacon that Zixex will be building on Pewsey Hill.

Tickets are available now from China Rose in the High Street or from the Coopers Arms. The price of £2 includes a commemorative mug.
